Frequently Asked Questions

Q: "What do you think of translation software?"

A: Translation software can serve as a time-saving tool for an experienced translator. But even the most expensive software packages still require editing by someone who knows the target language well. In some cases, the products of translation packages are found to be completely unsatisfactory. They may contain double entendres and incorrect word usage and will need to be completely redone to be functional at all. Language is ambiguous. Words can be used many different ways and frequently cannot be reduced to direct equivalents. In many cases there is no exact equivalent from one language to another, and a completely different approach must be used to render the same idea in an appropriate manner.

Q: "Who will do my translation?"

A: The International Word matches each translation project up with the best qualified translators and editors. Each job is done by an experienced professional translator with the kind of background needed to deliver the high-quality work you need to represent your company. Most of the translators we use are accredited and have higher educations. Some have degrees from recognized translation programs, and others have earned their stripes through a combination of education and experience. You want the most qualified translator you can find, and we will see to it that that's what you get.

Q: "How do you ensure that I get a good translation?"

A: The International Word relies on a quality-control process which includes editing by a second translator and additional proofreading, particularly if your document is going into print. No project is released until it has been reviewed several times for both linguistic and technical accuracy.

Q: "How long will it take to get my project back?"

A: That depends upon the complexity of the project, the formatting requirements, the amount of material. We are very conscious of your deadlines and will agree with you on the deadline when we accept the job. But keep in mind that "doing it right" requires a certain minimum turnaround time.
